Chris Lamb has always been drawn to the leading edge. As Vice President of Computing Software Platforms, he’s helped shape the future of accelerated computing and artificial intelligence, advancing technologies that power everything from medical research to autonomous vehicles.

His journey from Silicon Valley executive to Vision Jet pilot is a story of rediscovered passion, purposeful progression and the freedom Personal Aviation™ brings to both business and family life.

A Lifelong Fascination with Flight

Chris’ interest in aviation started early. “If you asked me when I was eight or ten years old what I wanted to be, it was an aeronautical engineer,” he says. “I had shelves of airplane books and military flight manuals. Even flight simulators.”

His path ultimately took him into computing. In 2007, he joined NVIDIA to help build CUDA, the platform that would become the backbone of modern AI and scientific computing, but flying was never far from his mind.

In 2011, Chris earned his Private Pilot’s License. Training over Palo Alto, he quickly realized that what had once been a childhood fascination had grown into something more enduring.

Discovering Cirrus

Two years later, Chris took a demo flight in an SR22 along the California coast, and everything changed.

“It was by far the most capable aircraft I’d flown,” he says. “And from an aerospace technology standpoint, the parachute system (Cirrus Airframe Parachute System©) was something I hadn’t seen before. It left an impression.”

With a background in technology, Chris saw Cirrus as a brand that redefined what Personal Aviation™ could look and feel like.

Chris purchased a Cirrus SR22T with a clear goal in mind: to prepare for the Vision Jet.

A Purposeful Journey

“That was the mission from the beginning,” he says. “The SR got me where I needed to go, but it also got me ready for what was next.”

Cross-country flights to the Pacific Northwest, trips to visit friends in the Mountain West— it all built the hours and experience he needed. “It was fast, efficient and reliable. The SR made flying part of my life.”

Next Stop: Vision Jet Ownership

With the Vision Jet, Chris found a new level of performance and peace of mind.

“The longer trips, the family trips—those all shifted to the jet,” he says. “It’s comfortable, capable and most importantly, it feels even safer. Especially with my kids onboard.”

Safety has always been a priority. For Chris and his wife, the addition of Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland offers meaningful reassurance. “My kids know how to activate it in the event of an emergency. That gives us confidence as a family.”

The Right Aircraft

When Chris first flew the Vision Jet, he didn’t yet have his Instrument Rating. But that didn’t stop him from getting hands-on time in the flight deck during a Cirrus demo day at Hayward Executive Airport.

“Cirrus let me fly the full profile with an instructor — from taxi to takeoff to landing,” he recalls. “It was intuitive and smooth. That flight convinced me it was possible.”

His wife sat in the back, experiencing the cabin for herself. “By the time we landed,” Chris says, “we both knew. This was the next step.”

A New Way to Travel and Connect

“Flying my kids to meet their new cousin in Seattle over a long weekend — those are memories we just couldn’t have made as easily before,” he says. “Now, they’re part of our everyday life.”

The aircraft allows Chris to move seamlessly between high-level work and personal time without compromise. “It’s not just about freedom,” he says. “It’s about being there. For moments that matter.”

The aircraft gives him the flexibility to make memories on his terms, without compromising his demanding work schedule or family responsibilities. “It’s about freedom, but it’s also about connection,” he adds.

Cirrus Aircraft Ownership

For Chris, owning a Cirrus is about more than flying the aircraft.

“Cirrus has built an ecosystem that makes the whole journey—from student pilot to jet owner—feel attainable,” he says. “The training, the insurance education, the support—it’s all dialed in.”

And that foundation matters, especially for someone balancing a demanding career and family responsibilities. “You could piece all of this together yourself,” Chris adds. “But Cirrus already has.”

A Flight to Remember

One flight in particular stands out among Chris’ many hours in the air: touching down at Kennedy Space Center’s legendary Shuttle Landing Facility with his father beside him — a moment made possible through a special Vision Jet Pilots and Owners (VPO) event designed exclusively for our community.

“My dad worked on the Apollo program in Houston during college,” he says. “NASA and spaceflight were a big part of my childhood. So, to fly into that historic runway, see the Vertical Assembly Building, and tour the facility with a former shuttle captain—that was incredible.”

For someone who grew up watching shuttle launches and dreaming of space, the experience was deeply meaningful. “It was one of those full-circle moments,” he says.

Advice from Experience

Today, Chris often finds himself giving advice to friends and colleagues who are thinking about learning to fly. His recommendation is simple:

“If I were starting over, I would begin my training in a Cirrus,” he says. “You want to learn in the type of aircraft you’re actually going to fly. You want to understand the avionics and systems early on. And most importantly, you want the safety margin.”

Chris believes that the Cirrus SR Series is the smartest place to start when beginning your pilot journey.

Eyes on the Horizon

From redefining the possibilities of AI to exploring new perspectives from the Vision Jet, Chris Lamb is always looking forward.

For him, flying is a lifestyle powered by precision, purpose and possibility.

Just like the technology he’s helped pioneer, it all starts with one idea: that there’s a better way, then building it one step at a time.

Ken and Jen Kelly’s Xi designed SR22T carries more than their names on the registration. Its colors, accents and details tell the story of their relationship, how they met, their wedding, and their shared passion for exploration. The aircraft reflects their lives together. It became the vehicle for their most ambitious adventure so far: a journey covering more than 100 hours of flight time, 47 airports and 25 countries across Europe and beyond.

The Kellys are no strangers to travel. They have explored almost one hundred countries by air and by land. But this trip had a different kind of magic. It was planned to test the full capability of their SR22T, to explore places where commercial routes rarely reach, and to weave together cultures, landscapes and flying experiences into a single continuous journey.

Setting the Course

The Kellys took delivery of their aircraft in October 2024, designed through the Xi program to match their story and style. They chose the SR22T for its innovation, safety, customization and performance, along with its versatility to fly over challenging terrain and weather without hesitation. For them, the balance of capability and operating cost means they can fly often and fly far, from short dinner flights to cross-country family visits.

Europe had been on their radar for some time. With careful planning, a willing pilot and the right preparation for international flying, the trip became a reality.

The Atlantic Crossing

They began by flying commercially to Amsterdam while a safety pilot ferried their SR22T across the Atlantic. On the return, they flew the crossing themselves: Scotland to Iceland, over Greenland into Canada and south toward home. One highlight was tracing Iceland’s southern glaciers at just 500 feet — “one of the best flights of my life,” Ken recalled.

Learning the European Rhythm

Flying in Europe required patience and flexibility. Each country interprets EU regulations differently, meaning procedures change from one border to the next. Many airports required prior permission and handling agents became part of the experience, often offering local knowledge. The Kellys treated these complexities not as obstacles but part of the adventure.

Cultural Connections

Southern and Eastern Europe revealed unique challenges and charm. Kosovo denied entry at the last minute, turning a canceled flight into a road trip from North Macedonia. In Albania, staff opened the airport just for them. Romania and Bulgaria shared centuries-old traditions. Everywhere, their Cirrus drew curiosity, bridging language barriers and sparking conversations.

In Central Europe, contrasts stood out: Slovakia’s warm welcome, Poland’s tightly controlled procedures, Switzerland’s quiet precision. Northern Europe brought scenic approaches — riding motorcycles on the Isle of Man, staying in whisky country on Islay, marveling at the Faroe Islands’ dramatic cliffs and community warmth.

A Stronger Partnership

Beyond the miles, the trip strengthened how they fly together. Jen took on more responsibilities, from radios to avionics, making each leg a team effort. “It is a great feeling to watch her excel,” Ken said.

What’s Next?

The Kellys are already planning: South Africa and Namibia in 2026, a Florida-to-Alaska flight with a stop at Oshkosh, Central Asia and a Caribbean loop. Ken’s advice to others: “Do not wait. Cirrus has built an aircraft that is capable, safe and supported worldwide. The first step is the hardest, but once you take it, you will see the world in an entirely new way.”

Memories Made

Their summer journey is a reminder that with preparation, flexibility and the right aircraft, the world becomes more connected. The Kellys returned not only with photos and flight hours, but a collection of quiet moments, conversations and the satisfaction of charting their own course across continents.

When Ben Zucker set out to design his fourth Cirrus, he wasn’t looking to blend in and neither were we.

Partnering with the Cirrus Xi Design team, Ben brought his signature energy and style to the table, drawing inspiration from his Pit Viper sunglasses and love for all bold things in life. The result? A completely custom SR22T G7+ that turns heads from every angle with three-tone paint, angled striping, fuchsia door jambs and a first-of-its-kind design across the flight controls. Inside, it’s all tied together with a G7+ interior that features Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland framed in carbon fiber trim.

“This design was bold, new and authentically made the Zucker’s aircraft what it is today,” said Brad Kappel, Xi Design Supervisor. “But that’s exactly the point. No two Xi aircraft are ever the same and that’s the fun of it.”

At Cirrus, we believe aircraft design should reflect personality, not follow a template. That’s why every Cirrus aircraft design journey starts with a visit to our Vision Center Campus in Knoxville, Tennessee, where owners meet with our team of experts to create something truly their own.

As Brad explained, the design process goes far beyond simply choosing a preset color palette. “We’re in the business of creativity and personalization,” Brad added. “We see hundreds of design aspects that can be made specifically for you. And when you see it all come together, there’s this moment of real pride for the customer and for our team.”

Ben Zucker’s aircraft design is unmistakably his and that is exactly what this program is about.

For Blaze Grubbs, aviation wasn’t just a career aspiration—it was a calling that took flight at the age of 16. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while many were navigating uncertainty, Blaze saw an opportunity. With time on his hands and a passion for adventure, he turned to flight training, setting the foundation for a journey that would lead him to Cirrus.

入门

Blaze’s journey into aviation began early, earning his Private Pilot’s License as a teenager. As he and his family became more familiar with the aviation world, one priority stood out above all: safety. That’s when Cirrus came into the picture.

“My mom didn’t want to put me in anything but a Cirrus,” Blaze recalls. “I feel very fortunate that my family was in the position to get an SR22 Turbo. I was 17 when I stepped into that aircraft.”

The SR22T became a pivotal part of Blaze’s training—a combination of performance, technology, and the confidence that comes with flying an aircraft equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®). With advanced avionics and thoughtful design, it gave Blaze and his family the peace of mind they were looking for.

With the best training available and a relentless drive to improve his skills, Blaze progressed through his ratings. While the journey to higher-performance aircraft often comes with challenges—especially in terms of insurance requirements—he worked his way up strategically, accumulating experience in both the SR22T and a Diamond before stepping into the Vision Jet.

“People don’t realize how big insurance is when moving to the next step,” he explains. “You really have to work your way up. I had a lot of Garmin time, but not a lot of retractable gear time, so we had to make sure I was ready for the transition.”

卷云生活

When asked what “The Cirrus Life” means to him, Blaze’s response is immediate: it’s about the people.

“Cirrus hires so well, and the people who fly Cirrus aircraft are just different. You step into the Knoxville Training Center, and it’s like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is so cool—I just want to be a part of it.’ The community of Cirrus owners and pilots is unlike any other, built on a foundation of innovation, passion, and camaraderie.”

Cirrus isn’t just about the aircraft—it’s about the experience. From the first flight lesson to earning a type rating, every step in the journey is supported by a world-class network of instructors, mentors, and fellow pilots who share a common passion for flight. And, of course, the aircraft themselves stand in a class of their own—offering cutting-edge technology, industry-leading safety features, and an ownership experience that’s second to none.

Flying the Vision Jet

Today, Blaze is the primary pilot for his family’s Vision Jet. Whether for personal trips or mission-driven travel, the aircraft has become an indispensable part of their lifestyle. With the convenience and performance of the Vision Jet, they can maximize every journey, whether staying close to home in Sacramento or venturing beyond.

“I’m the only one who flies it for my family, so I get to use it a lot,” he says with a smile. “It’s a privilege to fly an aircraft like this.”

One of Blaze’s most unforgettable experiences? Crossing the Atlantic in the Vision Jet. “We started in Knoxville, Tennessee, and ended up in Sweden,” he shares. “We went through Canada, Greenland, Iceland, and Norway. Obviously, you’re over a large body of water for quite a while, but with the turbine on our back and the parachute, I felt very safe. I wouldn’t have done it in another plane.”

The transatlantic journey showcased the Vision Jet’s impressive capabilities. From its efficiency in fuel burn to its intuitive avionics, the aircraft proved itself in demanding conditions. Blaze describes the experience as “awe-inspiring,” reflecting on the views of the vast ocean, the unique stops along the route, and the confidence he felt knowing he was flying one of the safest aircraft in its class.

“Flying over Greenland was unreal. The ice, the remoteness—it was like something out of a movie. But at the same time, I was completely at ease in the Vision Jet.”

Not every memorable flight takes place over oceans—some have a more profound emotional impact closer to home.

Last July, while in Arizona with his family, Blaze received an urgent request: a cleft-palate puppy needed a flight to Sacramento for a life-saving procedure. “I said absolutely,” Blaze recalls. “My girlfriend and I picked up the puppy, and my dad and I flew it safely back. Most cleft puppies are put down, but this one had a chance thanks to aviation.”

Girl carrying a box with a puppy

Last October, Blaze combined his two worlds — aviation and athletics. As a professional waterskier, he flew his family to San Marcos, Texas, for the 2024 Collegiate Waterski Nationals representing ASU. “It was a beautiful flight into the regional airport,” he says. “Another pilot recognized the tail number and offered me a hangar spot—such a small world.” Blaze ended that week with his first collegiate title and flew home to Arizona with a gold medal in hand and an even deeper appreciation for the reach of the aviation community.

Beyond the Flight Deck

Aviation isn’t just about flying—it’s about the doors it opens. For Blaze, aviation has allowed him to connect with an incredible network of people, travel in ways he never imagined, and continuously push himself to new heights.

“It always feels like a party with Cirrus,” he says about attending Cirrus events. “The people are amazing, the food is incredible, and I’ve already learned so much. It’s just fun. So many familiar faces, and I’m only 21. I’m just getting into this all, but it feels like home. That’s what’s really important.”

A young adult sitting in a presentation

At just 21, Blaze has already achieved what many pilots only dream of—earning his Vision Jet type rating, flying internationally, and becoming part of an elite aviation community. But for him, this is just the beginning.

Looking Ahead

Blaze’s journey is just beginning. As he continues to refine his skills and gain experience, he has his sights set on bigger and bolder aviation goals. Whether it’s flying new routes, mentoring aspiring pilots, or exploring the many career opportunities aviation offers, he knows that with Cirrus, the sky is truly the limit.

His advice to aspiring aviators?

“I definitely encourage everyone to get into aviation. Whether as a pilot or in another aspect of flying, I truly think it’s all about the people you know. The aviation community is unlike anything else. It’s a small world, and those connections can take you far.”

For Blaze, aviation is more than just flying—it’s a way of life. And with Cirrus, that life is limitless.

For Dr. Tom Nasser, aviation has always been a passion. But like many pilots, life took him on a different path for a time. Today, as a Vision Jet owner and pilot, Dr. Nasser reflects on his journey with Cirrus — one that reignited his love for flying and changed his life forever.

Table of Contents/Summary

A Passion for Aviation, Rekindled

Tom’s journey in aviation began in 1978, when he took his first flight lesson at just 15 years old. He fondly remembers the moment: “I grew up in Indianapolis, and got a discovery flight for Christmas in a Cessna 150 at Eagle Creek Airport. It was in 1978, and I can still remember the feeling of that first flight. That flight completely changed my life. It kept me off the streets and sparked a passion for flying.”

However, Tom’s aviation dream almost stayed just that—a dream. “My high school grades weren’t great. I was so obsessed with aviation that I spent most of my time reading flight manuals instead of doing schoolwork,” he admits. Yet despite his passion, Tom chose a more practical path. “My father, a cardiologist, convinced me to pursue a different career and make flying a hobby. So, I did just that and focused on dentistry instead.”

A Life-Changing Experience

Tom’s journey took a dramatic turn in 1980. On December 31st, while scuba diving in the Florida Keys, his boat sank. “It was a near-death experience, and I don’t want to go into details because it’s still really emotional for me,” he shares, his voice tinged with emotion. “But that experience gave me a second chance at life. I began studying harder in college and decided to pursue a career in dentistry, ultimately leading me to dental school. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I took basic courses. It wasn’t until later that I decided on endodontics.”

Tom’s story underscores the transformative power of second chances. “I’m not the smartest guy, and I’m a slow reader, but I’m motivated, and I’m really good with my hands. Endodontics allowed me to do something I love while making a living, and it’s also provided me with the financial freedom to pursue flying for fun,” he reflects.

Rediscovering Aviation

It wasn’t until 2005, after a 15-year hiatus, that aviation truly called Tom back. At a dental convention, he spotted a friend wearing a Cirrus shirt. “I asked him, ‘What’s a Cirrus aircraft?’ He told me to check it out when I got home. That moment, I knew — I wanted one. I was ready to dive in.”

This set the stage for a thrilling return to aviation. “I called a fellow dentist and Cirrus owner I hadn’t spoken to in years. He invited me to the airport for a quick flight, and from that moment, I couldn’t stop grinning. It was like love at first flight. The next day, I was signing the papers.” In October 2005, Tom took delivery of his first SR22 in Duluth, Minnesota. “It was surreal. They asked me, ‘Dr. Nasser, are you ready to see your new plane?’ That moment will stay with me forever. The dream was finally real.”

From Piston to Turbofan: A Natural Progression

Tom didn’t just stop his aviation goals at owning an SR22. He pursued flying with unmatched enthusiasm. “I was flying almost every weekend, going to every Cirrus pilot training session I could. I was learning nonstop. Then in 2016, I upgraded to an SR22T, and two years ago, I made the leap to the Vision Jet. At 60, I said, ‘It’s time.’”

He recalls the transition with enthusiasm: “The Vision Jet is a completely different experience. Taking the type rating in Knoxville was like staying at the Ritz-Carlton of aviation. The training was incredible, and the jet itself is such a joy to fly. It’s opened up new doors for me, and I’ve never looked back.”

Tom signs the board at the Vision Center, signifying he has achieved his Vision Jet type rating.

卷云生活™: Freedom to Fly

For Tom, flying is more than a hobby — it’s a lifestyle. “Cirrus has given me the freedom to fly where I want, when I want. My wife Jan and I have a place in Heaven’s Landing in Georgia, a private aviation community. We fly down about once a month. It’s only an hour and 15 minutes in the jet. That’s the Cirrus Life in action: I’m airborne in 15 minutes, while others are still waiting at TSA.”

That freedom is priceless to Tom. “We take the dogs! Flying commercial is just so inconvenient now with all the delays and lines. Owning the Vision Jet has truly been a privilege—one I’ll never take for granted.”

Safety, Community and Lifelong Learning

Safety has always been paramount for Tom. “I never stop learning. I never stop training,” he says with conviction. “I’ve lost friends in aviation accidents, and that’s something I take to heart. Cirrus has gone above and beyond in making safety a priority, not just with the parachute and Safe Return, but with the technology and people behind the company.”

Beyond safety, Tom treasures the Cirrus community. “The people I’ve met through Cirrus are some of the most interesting and inspiring individuals. I love the ConVerge events and getting to meet new people who share the same passion for aviation. It’s all about learning and connecting.”

Tom chats with astronauts (L to R) Hoot Gibson, Rhea Sneddon and Frank Culbertson at a Vision Pilots and Owners event.

Living the Dream

As Tom reflects on his aviation journey, he’s humbled by how far he’s come. “I’m just an average guy, but I work hard, and that’s what has gotten me here. I love what I do—root canals, caring for patients, but as my friend at Cirrus Dale Huffstetler says, ‘There’s more to life than root canals.’ And he’s right.”

For Tom, Cirrus isn’t just an aircraft — “It’s a way of life. It’s a privilege to fly this amazing aircraft and it’s a reminder of how far aviation has come since the Wright brothers’ first flight. The Klapmeier brothers revolutionized general aviation, and I’m just lucky to be part of that story.”

As he reaches new milestones, Tom embraces the freedom to fly and the joy it brings. “Life’s short, and I’m living the dream,” he says, with gratitude in his voice. “I’m living the Cirrus Life.”

At Cirrus, our commitment to excellence is not just about designing high-performance aircraft; it’s about creating experiences that transform lives. Scott Chaffin, a Vision Jet owner and pilot, embodies this philosophy. His story is one of passion, persistence, and the kind of freedom that only Personal Aviation™ can offer. Through his journey, Scott has found not just a way to fly, but a way to live.

The Call to Fly: A Dream Rediscovered

Scott’s story with aviation didn’t start with the Vision Jet, but it began with a dream that was put on hold. “I was set to go to the Naval Academy out of high school and was offered a pilot slot,” Scott recalls. “But then that was taken away due to an astigmatism. So, ultimately, I ended up not going into the Navy and pursued another career, but I always wanted to fly.”

Years later, after dropping their daughter off at college, his wife, Kim, reignited that spark. “Scott had always had this dream of flying, and when our kids left the house, we found ourselves at a crossroads. What do we do now?” Kim remembers. “I was a stay-at-home mom, and I thought, ‘What’s my new life going to be?’ So, I said to Scott, ‘How about now we reach for our dreams? You become a pilot, and I’ll write a book and get it published.’ And we sat down and said, ‘Let’s do it.’”

The two embarked on their respective journeys—Scott diving into flight training and Kim writing her book. “I’d be writing at night, and he’d be studying,” she says. “And a year later, my book came out, and Scott had his pilot’s license. We did it.”

A New Beginning with Cirrus

Scott continued his training, earning his Private Pilot’s License and Instrument Rating. He knew the next step was purchasing an aircraft, but before making a decision, he asked Kim a critical question: “Are you going to fly with me?”

Her answer was an immediate no. “So that kind of put a damper on the whole pursuit of aviation because I wanted it to be something we could do together,” Scott says. But then he had an idea. “I said, ‘What if the plane had a parachute?’”

Kim’s response? “I am not jumping out of a plane with a parachute!” she laughs.

Scott reassured her: “No, no. The entire plane has a parachute.” That changed everything. “If that’s the case, I’m in. I could do that,” Kim recalls.

After an experience flight with Dan Arch of Northwest Flight Service and meeting with Ivy McIver, Executive Director of the SR Series Product Line, Kim was sold. “The Cirrus Vision Jet with the parachute, and now with the Safe Return™ button, totally took my fear away. It gave me extra peace of mind,” she says. “If we did have an engine issue, we could pull that chute. And if, heaven forbid, anything happened to Scott, I can get the plane on the ground as simple as pushing a button.”

couple inside of plane

From SR Series to Vision Jet

For Scott, the Vision Jet represents both efficiency and adventure. “I would put two words to it: It’s a time machine and an adventure machine,” he says. “With work, I can get where I need to go quickly and still be home for dinner. But the other part is adventure. We’ve been able to go places we never thought about going. Instead of saying, ‘How can we get there?’ Now it’s, ‘Why aren’t we going?’”

Scott’s journey to the Vision Jet started with the SR Series, where he built confidence and experience as a pilot. As his travel needs evolved, so did his aircraft. “Moving up to the Vision Jet was a natural step,” he shares. “It gave us more capability without losing the simplicity and safety we loved in the SR Series.”

Kim adds that the ability to take their grandson flying has made it even more special. “To have your grandbaby up in the air and know you have that extra safety, it’s everything,” she said.
