Cirrus today delivered its 11,000th SR Series aircraft, a testament to the company’s innovation, safety, quality and service. The latest model, SR Series G7+, features Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland, the world’s first FAA-certified autonomous emergency landing system in a single-engine piston. The SR Series product line (SR20, SR22 and SR22T) was first delivered in 1999 and has been the best-selling high-performance single-engine piston aircraft for over two decades. The SR Series captivates experienced pilots, student pilots, and people new to aviation because the Cirrus design philosophy centers on innovation, safety and approachability. From its award-winning safety features to its concierge aircraft ownership pathway, Cirrus is the Personal Aviation™ aircraft manufacturer of choice.

“Delivering 11,000 SR Series aircraft is an incredible milestone for Cirrus,” said Zean Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer of Cirrus. “Cirrus is the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, and our aircraft feature cutting-edge innovations including the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System™ (CAPS™), Perspective Touch+™ avionics and Safe Return Emergency Autoland, which continue to raise the industry benchmark and keep people flying with confidence.”

11,000th SR Series Exclusive Design

The one-of-one, 11,000th SR Series aircraft showcases an exclusive, bold design to commemorate the milestone. Crafted by the Cirrus Xi™ Design Studio, the inspiration for the 11,000th aircraft draws from forward-looking trends, the art of movement, and elevated luxurious colors and materials. The design combines elegance, sportiness, and thoughtful details, celebrating 11,000 aircraft deliveries with the number eleven on the fuselage, tail, and inside the cabin. The dark green ‘Monteverde’ paint is unmistakable on the ramp, making the number eleven stand out. Premium materials in ‘Vision Green’, ‘Concrete’ Alcantara® and matte carbon fiber create a sophisticated, comfortable cabin.

SR Series G7+ Innovations

New for 2025, the SR Series G7+ aircraft features Safe Return Emergency Autoland as standard equipment. In the event of an emergency, anyone in the cabin can activate Safe Return Emergency Autoland with the touch of a button. Once engaged, sophisticated sensors and algorithms navigate the aircraft to a nearby suitable airport and autonomously land the aircraft. This advancement in aviation safety provides pilots and passengers with an automated emergency landing option in the event of pilot incapacitation or a similar in-flight emergency.

Automatic Database Updates powered by Cirrus IQ™ PRO allow owners to receive automatic avionics database updates via Wi-Fi® or LTE® to ensure the most current and accurate data for navigation. These updates can occur while the aircraft is powered off and the owner is away from it. When the aircraft is powered up, essential databases are automatically synchronized across compatible avionics.

Runway Occupancy Awareness leverages ADS-B traffic data to predict and alert pilots of potential runway incursions from nearby airborne aircraft or other aircraft on or approaching the runway. Visual and aural alerts are provided on the pilot’s primary flight display and 3D SafeTaxi™ map to maximize situational awareness, a safety feature that is especially useful at busy airports.

Smart Pitot Heat is enabled by systems integration through Perspective Touch+ to reduce pilot workload and automate the flying experience. The system performs a self-test before every flight and automatically turns on or off in flight depending on outside air temperatures, making it one less system to manage.

Live the Cirrus Life™

The SR Series opens doors to new opportunities and invites you to travel for business or leisure at your convenience. With Personal Aviation, you eliminate the stressors and roadblocks making travel and flying your own aircraft enjoyable. The Cirrus Life empowers you to embrace travel and make lifetime memories with friends and family. Walk up to your aircraft and take flight within minutes – your next adventure awaits.

Ken and Jen Kelly’s Xi designed SR22T carries more than their names on the registration. Its colors, accents and details tell the story of their relationship, how they met, their wedding, and their shared passion for exploration. The aircraft reflects their lives together. It became the vehicle for their most ambitious adventure so far: a journey covering more than 100 hours of flight time, 47 airports and 25 countries across Europe and beyond.

The Kellys are no strangers to travel. They have explored almost one hundred countries by air and by land. But this trip had a different kind of magic. It was planned to test the full capability of their SR22T, to explore places where commercial routes rarely reach, and to weave together cultures, landscapes and flying experiences into a single continuous journey.

Setting the Course

The Kellys took delivery of their aircraft in October 2024, designed through the Xi program to match their story and style. They chose the SR22T for its innovation, safety, customization and performance, along with its versatility to fly over challenging terrain and weather without hesitation. For them, the balance of capability and operating cost means they can fly often and fly far, from short dinner flights to cross-country family visits.

Europe had been on their radar for some time. With careful planning, a willing pilot and the right preparation for international flying, the trip became a reality.

Xi designed aircraft

The Atlantic Crossing

They began by flying commercially to Amsterdam while a safety pilot ferried their SR22T across the Atlantic. On the return, they flew the crossing themselves: Scotland to Iceland, over Greenland into Canada and south toward home. One highlight was tracing Iceland’s southern glaciers at just 500 feet — “one of the best flights of my life,” Ken recalled.

Learning the European Rhythm

Flying in Europe required patience and flexibility. Each country interprets EU regulations differently, meaning procedures change from one border to the next. Many airports required prior permission and handling agents became part of the experience, often offering local knowledge. The Kellys treated these complexities not as obstacles but part of the adventure.

Cultural Connections

Southern and Eastern Europe revealed unique challenges and charm. Kosovo denied entry at the last minute, turning a canceled flight into a road trip from North Macedonia. In Albania, staff opened the airport just for them. Romania and Bulgaria shared centuries-old traditions. Everywhere, their Cirrus drew curiosity, bridging language barriers and sparking conversations.

In Central Europe, contrasts stood out: Slovakia’s warm welcome, Poland’s tightly controlled procedures, Switzerland’s quiet precision. Northern Europe brought scenic approaches — riding motorcycles on the Isle of Man, staying in whisky country on Islay, marveling at the Faroe Islands’ dramatic cliffs and community warmth.

A Stronger Partnership

Beyond the miles, the trip strengthened how they fly together. Jen took on more responsibilities, from radios to avionics, making each leg a team effort. “It is a great feeling to watch her excel,” Ken said.

What’s Next?

The Kellys are already planning: South Africa and Namibia in 2026, a Florida-to-Alaska flight with a stop at Oshkosh, Central Asia and a Caribbean loop. Ken’s advice to others: “Do not wait. Cirrus has built an aircraft that is capable, safe and supported worldwide. The first step is the hardest, but once you take it, you will see the world in an entirely new way.”

Memories Made

Their summer journey is a reminder that with preparation, flexibility and the right aircraft, the world becomes more connected. The Kellys returned not only with photos and flight hours, but a collection of quiet moments, conversations and the satisfaction of charting their own course across continents.

This National Aviation Day, we’re taking a moment to look back at how far Personal Aviation™ has come since Cirrus was founded in 1984. From the very first SR Series to the cutting-edge G7+, we’ve never stopped innovating along the way.

Sr Series G1

Table of Contents/Summary

G1 – 1998

cirrus sr series assembly line

SR20

The SR20, a single-piston composite airplane, changed the world of general aviation. The SR20 featured a 10-inch multi-function display, side-yoke flight controllers, a complete glass cockpit and of course, CAPS® – the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). The SR20 was designed with people in mind, blending innovation with accessibility.

SR22

By 2000, Cirrus received a Type Certificate for a composite piston aircraft with a larger wing, larger fuel capacity, and more powerful engine – the SR22. The SR22 (and after its launch in 2010, the SR22T) has led piston aircraft sales worldwide since 2002, maintaining the best-selling general aviation airplane title every year since.

G2 – 2004

The SR Series G2 aircraft brought structural and design improvements. Key upgrades included a TKS fluid-based system for in-flight icing protection and the addition of XM satellite weather and terrain alerting capabilities. G2 also brought refreshed interior and exterior design options, offering a more refined and customizable flying experience.

G3 – 2007

sr series G3

G3 revolutionized the SR Series – again. The introduction of the Cirrus Perspective™ by Garmin® flight deck in 2008 brought greater automation and situational awareness, making flying more intuitive and streamlined for pilots. The major airframe redesign further prioritized both pilot and passenger comfort.

In 2010, the Cirrus lineup expanded with a turbocharged option. The SR22T delivered the ability to fly higher, faster, and farther than ever before.

G5 – 2013

2013 marked the introduction of the SR Series G5. The aircraft gained an additional 200 pounds of useful load, seating capacity increased to five, and enhancements like USB ports, tubeless tires, and ADS-B In & Out added modern convenience. The introduction of Flight Stream wireless connectivity and an angle of attack indicator further improved safety in every flight.

G6 – 2017

SR series G6

The SR Series G6 was all about refinement. The Cirrus Perspective+™ flight deck offered faster processing and expanded capabilities, while the new Spectra™ LED lighting system improved visibility and style. With Cirrus IQ™, pilots could connect to their aircraft from their phones, accessing real-time data with ease. Along with aerodynamic upgrades to reduce drag, the SR Series is the ultimate personal travel machine.

G7 – 2024

sr series G7

G7 brought the most comprehensive interior update in SR Series history. Designed with a focus on car-like comfort and convenience, the cabin featured refined materials, enhanced ergonomics throughout, and updated avionics with Cirrus Perspective Touch+ to offer larger, more colorful dual touchscreen displays with three times more resolution than before. Advancements in automation elevated the overall flying experience, making each interaction more seamless and modern.

G7+ – 2025

Most recently, the SR Series G7+ in 2025 introduced Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland, becoming the world’s first aircraft manufacturer to incorporate the system on a piston aircraft. With Cirrus IQ Pro as well, the G7+ now features automatic database updates, making it even easier to own and operate an SR Series aircraft.

Generation after generation, Cirrus has redefined what’s possible in Personal Aviation™. Every evolution continues to push boundaries, delivering unmatched innovation, luxury, and performance. With Cirrus, everything is within reach.

When Ben Zucker set out to design his fourth Cirrus, he wasn’t looking to blend in and neither were we.

Partnering with the Cirrus Xi Design team, Ben brought his signature energy and style to the table, drawing inspiration from his Pit Viper sunglasses and love for all bold things in life. The result? A completely custom SR22T G7+ that turns heads from every angle with three-tone paint, angled striping, fuchsia door jambs and a first-of-its-kind design across the flight controls. Inside, it’s all tied together with a G7+ interior that features Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland framed in carbon fiber trim.

“This design was bold, new and authentically made the Zucker’s aircraft what it is today,” said Brad Kappel, Xi Design Supervisor. “But that’s exactly the point. No two Xi aircraft are ever the same and that’s the fun of it.”

At Cirrus, we believe aircraft design should reflect personality, not follow a template. That’s why every Cirrus aircraft design journey starts with a visit to our Vision Center Campus in Knoxville, Tennessee, where owners meet with our team of experts to create something truly their own.

As Brad explained, the design process goes far beyond simply choosing a preset color palette. “We’re in the business of creativity and personalization,” Brad added. “We see hundreds of design aspects that can be made specifically for you. And when you see it all come together, there’s this moment of real pride for the customer and for our team.”

Ben Zucker’s aircraft design is unmistakably his and that is exactly what this program is about.

3. Tune Into the Schedule

4. Self-Care

5. Capture the Moment

1. Plan Your Arrival

If there’s one thing to know about Oshkosh, it’s this: timing is everything.

Wittman Field becomes the busiest airport in the world during AirVenture, so planning your arrival window is essential. The FAA publishes a dedicated NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) specifically for Oshkosh, and it’s not optional reading — it’s a must.

A few key tips:

  • Study the NOTAM before you even start the engine. Highlight your intended arrival route (FISK, RIPON, or others) and be prepared to follow it precisely. You can download it here.
  • Time your arrival for the early morning when winds are generally calmer, traffic is lighter and you’ll have the rest of the day to settle in.
  • Bring a printed copy of the NOTAM with you.

Pro tip: Use Cirrus IQ™ to monitor weather trends and system health during your trip prep. It’s another layer of preparation that provides reassurance for your travel plan.

2. Pack Like a Pro

Oshkosh is a weeklong camping and community experience. Whether you’re pitching a tent under your aircraft wing or staying in town, what you pack can make or break your week. Here’s our recommended packing list.

Essentials:

  • Printed NOTAM
  • External battery pack (or three): Between photos, apps and maps, your phone will be working overtime.
  • Cirrus merch: Because there’s no better time to wear it.
  • Camp chairs and shade: Your future self will thank you.

3. Tune Into the Schedule

There’s a lot to do at Oshkosh. While planning helps, some of the best moments happen spontaneously. That said, there are a few Cirrus moments you won’t want to miss this year:

  • New retail items – You will be sure to find a few new products for the pilot or Cirrus fan at our Cirrus Store this year.
  • Cirrus Flight Training Opportunities – Hot bench demos will be available at our Cirrus Approach booth as well as daily SR Series Preflight demos on the lawn.
  • Kid-friendly activities – Now kids under 11 years old can design their own Cirrus aircraft at our booth. This year, we are introducing new junior Cirrus Xi Design sessions throughout the week.
  • Check out our daily schedule here
  • Be sure to follow Cirrus’ Instagram page and message channel for real-time updates during the week. We’ll keep you in the loop with insider moments, live demos, and maybe even a surprise guest or two.

4. Self-Care

Oshkosh is exciting and exhausting. From airshows to evening events, it’s easy to get caught up in the aviation fun, but don’t forget the basics. Here’s your wellness checklist:

  • Hydrate. Bring a refillable water bottle and stay hydrated to ensure a successful week.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll walk miles each day without realizing it.
  • Pace yourself. The week is long, and your legs will thank you if you don’t try to see everything on day one.

5. Capture the Moment

This week will fly by literally and figuratively. Make time to:

  • Check out our SR Series G7+ and G2+ Vision Jet aircraft on display
  • Snap lots of photos
  • Watch the airshows
  • Network with new people
  • Form new relationships

We want to see you on the big screen. Stop by the Cirrus tent and check out our live social wall — featuring your posts in real time. Tag @cirrusaircraft and use #CirrusLife to be featured.

Not on social media? No problem. Just scan one of the QR codes around the Cirrus display or go here to submit your photo post. You might see your story up there next!

6. Connect with the Community

From chatting with fellow Vision Jet owners in line for coffee to trading cross-country flight stories with SR Series pilots, the connections you make at Oshkosh are unmatched.

For Blaze Grubbs, aviation wasn’t just a career aspiration—it was a calling that took flight at the age of 16. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while many were navigating uncertainty, Blaze saw an opportunity. With time on his hands and a passion for adventure, he turned to flight training, setting the foundation for a journey that would lead him to Cirrus.

Getting Started

Blaze’s journey into aviation began early, earning his Private Pilot’s License as a teenager. As he and his family became more familiar with the aviation world, one priority stood out above all: safety. That’s when Cirrus came into the picture.

“My mom didn’t want to put me in anything but a Cirrus,” Blaze recalls. “I feel very fortunate that my family was in the position to get an SR22 Turbo. I was 17 when I stepped into that aircraft.”

The SR22T became a pivotal part of Blaze’s training—a combination of performance, technology, and the confidence that comes with flying an aircraft equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®). With advanced avionics and thoughtful design, it gave Blaze and his family the peace of mind they were looking for.

With the best training available and a relentless drive to improve his skills, Blaze progressed through his ratings. While the journey to higher-performance aircraft often comes with challenges—especially in terms of insurance requirements—he worked his way up strategically, accumulating experience in both the SR22T and a Diamond before stepping into the Vision Jet.

“People don’t realize how big insurance is when moving to the next step,” he explains. “You really have to work your way up. I had a lot of Garmin time, but not a lot of retractable gear time, so we had to make sure I was ready for the transition.”

The Cirrus Life

When asked what “The Cirrus Life” means to him, Blaze’s response is immediate: it’s about the people.

“Cirrus hires so well, and the people who fly Cirrus aircraft are just different. You step into the Knoxville Training Center, and it’s like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is so cool—I just want to be a part of it.’ The community of Cirrus owners and pilots is unlike any other, built on a foundation of innovation, passion, and camaraderie.”

Cirrus isn’t just about the aircraft—it’s about the experience. From the first flight lesson to earning a type rating, every step in the journey is supported by a world-class network of instructors, mentors, and fellow pilots who share a common passion for flight. And, of course, the aircraft themselves stand in a class of their own—offering cutting-edge technology, industry-leading safety features, and an ownership experience that’s second to none.

Flying the Vision Jet

Today, Blaze is the primary pilot for his family’s Vision Jet. Whether for personal trips or mission-driven travel, the aircraft has become an indispensable part of their lifestyle. With the convenience and performance of the Vision Jet, they can maximize every journey, whether staying close to home in Sacramento or venturing beyond.

“I’m the only one who flies it for my family, so I get to use it a lot,” he says with a smile. “It’s a privilege to fly an aircraft like this.”

One of Blaze’s most unforgettable experiences? Crossing the Atlantic in the Vision Jet. “We started in Knoxville, Tennessee, and ended up in Sweden,” he shares. “We went through Canada, Greenland, Iceland, and Norway. Obviously, you’re over a large body of water for quite a while, but with the turbine on our back and the parachute, I felt very safe. I wouldn’t have done it in another plane.”

The transatlantic journey showcased the Vision Jet’s impressive capabilities. From its efficiency in fuel burn to its intuitive avionics, the aircraft proved itself in demanding conditions. Blaze describes the experience as “awe-inspiring,” reflecting on the views of the vast ocean, the unique stops along the route, and the confidence he felt knowing he was flying one of the safest aircraft in its class.

“Flying over Greenland was unreal. The ice, the remoteness—it was like something out of a movie. But at the same time, I was completely at ease in the Vision Jet.”

Not every memorable flight takes place over oceans—some have a more profound emotional impact closer to home.

Last July, while in Arizona with his family, Blaze received an urgent request: a cleft-palate puppy needed a flight to Sacramento for a life-saving procedure. “I said absolutely,” Blaze recalls. “My girlfriend and I picked up the puppy, and my dad and I flew it safely back. Most cleft puppies are put down, but this one had a chance thanks to aviation.”

Last October, Blaze combined his two worlds — aviation and athletics. As a professional waterskier, he flew his family to San Marcos, Texas, for the 2024 Collegiate Waterski Nationals representing ASU. “It was a beautiful flight into the regional airport,” he says. “Another pilot recognized the tail number and offered me a hangar spot—such a small world.” Blaze ended that week with his first collegiate title and flew home to Arizona with a gold medal in hand and an even deeper appreciation for the reach of the aviation community.

Beyond the Flight Deck

Aviation isn’t just about flying—it’s about the doors it opens. For Blaze, aviation has allowed him to connect with an incredible network of people, travel in ways he never imagined, and continuously push himself to new heights.

“It always feels like a party with Cirrus,” he says about attending Cirrus events. “The people are amazing, the food is incredible, and I’ve already learned so much. It’s just fun. So many familiar faces, and I’m only 21. I’m just getting into this all, but it feels like home. That’s what’s really important.”

At just 21, Blaze has already achieved what many pilots only dream of—earning his Vision Jet type rating, flying internationally, and becoming part of an elite aviation community. But for him, this is just the beginning.

Looking Ahead

Blaze’s journey is just beginning. As he continues to refine his skills and gain experience, he has his sights set on bigger and bolder aviation goals. Whether it’s flying new routes, mentoring aspiring pilots, or exploring the many career opportunities aviation offers, he knows that with Cirrus, the sky is truly the limit.

His advice to aspiring aviators?

“I definitely encourage everyone to get into aviation. Whether as a pilot or in another aspect of flying, I truly think it’s all about the people you know. The aviation community is unlike anything else. It’s a small world, and those connections can take you far.”

For Blaze, aviation is more than just flying—it’s a way of life. And with Cirrus, that life is limitless.

At Cirrus, our commitment to excellence is not just about designing high-performance aircraft; it’s about creating experiences that transform lives. Scott Chaffin, a Vision Jet owner and pilot, embodies this philosophy. His story is one of passion, persistence, and the kind of freedom that only Personal Aviation™ can offer. Through his journey, Scott has found not just a way to fly, but a way to live.

The Call to Fly: A Dream Rediscovered

Scott’s story with aviation didn’t start with the Vision Jet, but it began with a dream that was put on hold. “I was set to go to the Naval Academy out of high school and was offered a pilot slot,” Scott recalls. “But then that was taken away due to an astigmatism. So, ultimately, I ended up not going into the Navy and pursued another career, but I always wanted to fly.”

Years later, after dropping their daughter off at college, his wife, Kim, reignited that spark. “Scott had always had this dream of flying, and when our kids left the house, we found ourselves at a crossroads. What do we do now?” Kim remembers. “I was a stay-at-home mom, and I thought, ‘What’s my new life going to be?’ So, I said to Scott, ‘How about now we reach for our dreams? You become a pilot, and I’ll write a book and get it published.’ And we sat down and said, ‘Let’s do it.’”

The two embarked on their respective journeys—Scott diving into flight training and Kim writing her book. “I’d be writing at night, and he’d be studying,” she says. “And a year later, my book came out, and Scott had his pilot’s license. We did it.”

A New Beginning with Cirrus

Scott continued his training, earning his Private Pilot’s License and Instrument Rating. He knew the next step was purchasing an aircraft, but before making a decision, he asked Kim a critical question: “Are you going to fly with me?”

Her answer was an immediate no. “So that kind of put a damper on the whole pursuit of aviation because I wanted it to be something we could do together,” Scott says. But then he had an idea. “I said, ‘What if the plane had a parachute?’”

Kim’s response? “I am not jumping out of a plane with a parachute!” she laughs.

Scott reassured her: “No, no. The entire plane has a parachute.” That changed everything. “If that’s the case, I’m in. I could do that,” Kim recalls.

After an experience flight with Dan Arch of Northwest Flight Service and meeting with Ivy McIver, Executive Director of the SR Series Product Line, Kim was sold. “The Cirrus Vision Jet with the parachute, and now with the Safe Return™ button, totally took my fear away. It gave me extra peace of mind,” she says. “If we did have an engine issue, we could pull that chute. And if, heaven forbid, anything happened to Scott, I can get the plane on the ground as simple as pushing a button.”

From SR Series to Vision Jet

For Scott, the Vision Jet represents both efficiency and adventure. “I would put two words to it: It’s a time machine and an adventure machine,” he says. “With work, I can get where I need to go quickly and still be home for dinner. But the other part is adventure. We’ve been able to go places we never thought about going. Instead of saying, ‘How can we get there?’ Now it’s, ‘Why aren’t we going?’”

Scott’s journey to the Vision Jet started with the SR Series, where he built confidence and experience as a pilot. As his travel needs evolved, so did his aircraft. “Moving up to the Vision Jet was a natural step,” he shares. “It gave us more capability without losing the simplicity and safety we loved in the SR Series.”

Kim adds that the ability to take their grandson flying has made it even more special. “To have your grandbaby up in the air and know you have that extra safety, it’s everything,” she said.

The Cirrus Life™: Freedom and Flexibility

Scott’s journey encapsulates what we call “The Cirrus Life™”—a lifestyle defined by freedom, safety and a commitment to living life on your own terms. “The Cirrus Life is the ability to pack up and go where we want, when we want,” Scott says.

That’s what the Cirrus Life is all about: creating experiences that give our customers the freedom to live life fully, to take their dreams to new heights and to do so with the confidence that they are in the safest, most innovative aircraft available.

For Scott and Kim, embracing the Cirrus Life has been about more than just flying. It’s about unlocking a world of opportunities, creating lifelong memories and having the peace of mind that comes with knowing their safety is always a priority. Through the Vision Jet, they’ve found not just a means of travel, but a way to live with purpose, adventure and freedom.
