Part of the photo shoot for the Discovery Channel at Lansing. I'm cold!

I was up bright and early this morning in beautiful downtown Chicago, for a trip to the hair salon for a much needed haircut that turned into a facial, highlights and a complimentary makeup session. It took nearly three hours but was very enjoyable.

I finished just in time to head back to Lansing Airport for an afternoon of interviews and filming with the Discovery Travel Channel. Trying to do an interview at a busy weekend airport without background noise is next to impossible and turned into a two-hour marathon for all of us. But, we finally managed to take to the air at 3:30 p.m. for an additional 2+-hour air-to-air photo shoot over the grassy fields south of the airport and then north over Lake Michigan.

Air to air photo shoots are always exhausting as it requires constant attention to the photo plane, airspeed, altitude, etc. We finally returned to the airport just before dark and will complete shooting take-offs and landings tomorrow morning, prior to our departure for Sandusky, Ohio where we need to stop before entering the Cleveland Class B airspace the next day (they are making special arrangements for us to do this). ?Bear? (the airport dog and seeming manager), took a real liking to my helmet and goggles and decided that he would like them for his very own. After a little discussion, I was able to convince him to give them back to me, but he continued to follow me everywhere, looking longingly at them in my hand.

Needless to say, I am very tired right now after a long afternoon of filming and flying. We had a quick dinner in the hotel restaurant and, I am going to indulge in a hot shower and get a good nights rest.

I can hardly believe the trip is almost complete. It is with mixed emotions that it comes to an end. I am homesick for my local airports, Schellville and Sonoma Skypark and all of the people that make those places so special, but on the other hand, I will also miss this wonderful adventure and all of the spectacular sights and people who have greeted me and given me the impetus to keep going. The freedom to fly when and where we want is one of the most treasured gifts we have and I, for one, will never forget that.

Good night!

This is the hangar at Lansing, it was built even before the Avian, back in 1924, by Henry Ford.

I don't know if you can read this or not, but this sign tells about the Lansing hangar shown above.
