A high school art class came out to sketch the Avian in Hobbs. Delightfuly, we've noticed lot of school kids have been following our flight.
Since we announced the Earhart flight re-creation, I've received some amazing emails and notes of encouragement (carlene@ameliaflight.com). I try to respond to as many as possible, but want everyone to know I truly enjoy hearing from you.
I wanted to share with you some of the eloquently written, supporting words from a few of the many kind-hearted individuals out there. Here are some of the examples. Thanks for writing, I look forward to hearing more from you!
Dear Dr. Mendieta,
Our class was reading Time for Kids on a very sad day in our Country's history. Providing an environment of stability for children is paramount at all times, but especially today. We read the article about your journey and the children really understood your strong connection to the past. The almost predictable comments, "Why bother when you can take a jet in 6 hours?", or "You won't catch me doing that!" were unpredictably absent. In their place, I am guessing, was un underlying need for heroes, and a respect for someone with dreams who chooses to follow them. From a student I had just reminded to "stay on task", came the suggestion, "Good luck in following your dream, we all hope you make
it." The class fell silent and immediately agreed on the message. We all need a dream to believe in today, we hope your's comes true. We promise to follow the rest of your journey!

Carlene,
What a great idea! AE was a wonderful person with a tremendous love for flying. She accomplished so much in aviation before her tragic round-the-world flight. As planned, your flight will bring attention to the fact that she had many successful flights, and was an inspiration to woman around the world.
As an Aerospace Education Officer for cadets in the Civil Air Patrol I teach many young people about aviation history, and the female cadets really light up when I talk about Amelia. It's truly amazing the lasting effect AE's life has had on so many. Your flight will be a great way to keep her memory alive.
Best of wishes to you, and may your flight inspire another generation!

Hello, my name is Jessica, 20 yrs old, pvt pilot. I had wanted to fly for as long as I can remember. I started flying when I was 18, and now have over 3hrs. I am working on my instrument and commercial right now.
A good friend of mine showed me your web page and I find it quite interesting. I think that it is great what you are doing! It really gives the
rest of the females in the profession someone to look up to. When I was about 11 or 12 I wrote a school paper on female pilots, and how when I was able to I was going to retrace Amelia Earharts route. That was my goal at least.
What is you're favorite plane to fly? I have really fallen in love with a Citaborea. I just earned my tail-wheel endorsement in one about a month ago and I can't break myself away from them.
Jessica
