Good afternoon from Hobbs, New Mexico.
After additional delays in opening the airspace for general aviation aircraft we have elected to remain on the ground in Hobbs for the next six days and resume the Amelia Earhart Flight Across America next Wednesday, September 19th. We intend to depart Hobbs next Wednesday and fly to Pecos, Texas. After a ground stop in Pecos, we will proceed to El Paso, Texas where we will spend next Wednesday night. The specific times will be posted within a day or two.
On Thursday we will proceed to McNeal, Arizona and (hopefully) a re-scheduled lunch with the Ladies Aid Society. From there we will proceed after lunch to Tucson and Casa Grande per our original schedule, albeit one week later.
We appreciate all the good wishes and support our flight re-creation has received and we will not let you down. We plan to continue not only to honor Amelia Earhart, but those who have suffered from recent events. We resolve not to be intimidated by terrorist activity.
Our eastbound schedule will not be impacted by this westbound delay.
